Summer break for a teacher is always fun until about the 2nd week and then we start to get a little stir crazy. Well we are now almost 5 weeks in and I have cleaned every inch of our living quarters, thrown away and cleaned out every drawer, cabinet and closet. The laundry and dishes are always done, breakfast lunch and dinner always made. Not to mention the strict routine that we have been staying on because mommy has to get her homework done. Just exhausting typing all that really.
With all that said I have now deep cleaned twice in the last 5 weeks. Yes, twice. My OCD is a bit out of control right now. Two days ago I cleaned the toys in Layton's toy buckets. I should have known better because the same thing happens EVERY TIME! I get out my Clorox Anywhere spray and start to spray and wipe the toys. The whole time I'm thinking, "Everytime I do this he get's sick!" Oh well I just keep cleaning, wiping, cleaning wiping until every toy has a new toy shine!
Now to backtrack for those of you that follow Layton's story...
You know that sickness was nothing new from about 3 months to 22 months. We spent many hours at the doctors and allergists trying to figure out how to keep him off antibiotic and keep his allergies under control. Finally with a new doctor Layton made HUGE gains. I have managed to keep him out of the doctors office since the end of March! (We did go in April before out spring break trip but that was just a small allergy attack, nothing really important) He goes back for an allergy testing in September to see if he has gained new allergies and see if he has lost the old. I'm on pins and needles waiting for that day! Plus he has his 2 year check-up on Wednesday morning!
Anyways...
Guess what? Layton woke up from nap yesterday with a slightly runny nose! Then this morning he woke up with snot all over! Of course! Cough, snot, cough, snot! Why did I clean the stupid toys knowing it would happen? Needless to say we are now nursing a cold and snotty nose that won't stop runny. Using as many home remedies as possible and hopefully he will be dried up before Wednesday morning!

Horse in a Thong Speedo
I said before that I feel like I live with a comedian. I love that Layton is at the age where he just says whatever he thinks. It doesn't really matter what it is, he has no filter.
This morning we went swimming after breakfast and play time, just like we have been doing almost every morning since I've been off work. Today we went to the pool at our regular time, usually we are the only ones there because everyone goes later in the afternoon. Today there was an older man at the pool that I didn't notice as soon as we walked in because he was laying down. Layton and I unpacked our stuff and jumped in the pool as we would everyday. We played on the stairs and then began to swim back and forth. When we made it to the other end of the pool Layton loudly yells, "Horse mommy!"I swing my head around to notice an old man laying face down in a THONG SPEEDO! His butt cheeks clearly visible and Layton was exactly right. His rear end resembled non other than a brown horse, kinda of like the one Layton has that goes with his farm! As I try to keep in my laughter and hope that the man doesn't hear, the old many jumps up and turns around. I'm assuming at this point because he's trying to find the horse! I try to swim back to the other side of the pool as quickly as possible but again my no filtered child then yells, "Where you pants?" At this point I busted out in laughter and the old man looked horrified. I have a feeling that we won't be seeing him at the pool during our swim time anymore. Or at least maybe next time he will wear pants to the pool! =)

Going to the beach
Layton just got done studying the beach as school. When his teachers first started talking about the beach Layton would tell them "No! Mommy!" He knew that Mommy and Sarah took him to the beach and so when they wanted to take an imaginary trip to the beach, he wasn't having it. Now everywhere we go we are going to the beach. The wood-chips at the park is the beach, the mountains, everything!
Yesterday when we were getting ready for the day Layton saw the Santa that my Dad and I pass back and forth when we travel to visit each other. He called it Papaw and then immediately started talking about getting on his shoes and socks so that he could we could go to the beach. I explained to Layton that maybe one day we could go to the beach and visit Grandma Judy and Grandpa Steve. Well that then turned into "Mamaw, Papaw, Mommy, Layton go beach!" Shoes, socks! Swimming, splash! Swimming shoes!" I love our conversations and how funny they become! I can't believe at 10 days short of 2 years old, we can have such fun conversations! =)

Time Out
I have made sure that I raised an independent child. With that being said, sometimes I think at the age of almost 2, I have made him a little too big for his britches. This morning Layton decided that it would be a great idea to wake up at 5am! Little does he realize that Mommy does not function until 7am! He has been quite the spitfire this morning due to his early morning rooster call!
Around 8:30 Layton started hitting, which is something that he has been getting in trouble for lately. I warned him and put him in timeout. I am use to Layton trying to get out of time out and I put him right back until his time is up. Today every time he got out of time out he took a piece of cereal out of his bowl, laughed and went back and sat down. I took the bowl away when I figured out what he was doing and kept watching the clock. Once the bowl was away and he sat his 2 minutes I went to talk with him about his hitting. As soon as I got there he put his head down and started to fake cry. I told him he has to have nice hands and be nice to Mommy. Still with his head down and fake whimpering he says, "Layton crying!" Little s**t is the only thought that went through my brain. He said he was sorry with his head down and then slowly looked up at me whimpered one more time and said "Layton crying, Mommy!" As soon as I went to talk to him he started laughing as loud as he could and ran away...
What have I gotten myself into?!?!?!?

Busy, busy, busy
Clearly this is how busy my life as become because I haven't posted in months. I need to start making sure that I am filling you in on things! Life has been so crazy since I have been back to work. I have 34 kids in my class at the moment, a few of which are complete CrAzIeS!!! It takes all my power not to strangle them somedays. On top of work I have been working on my masters which is a lot of tedious busy work. Oh yea and I'm a single mom 75% of the week! So much fun and excitement happening in this life!
We just went to the doctor for Layton's 18 month check-up. He is right on track and doing great. 26lbs 12oz, 32.25 inches and still has big brains! No wonder he is so smart! The kids talks up a storm! "What is this? What is this? Mommy.... " I love that we can have conversations now though. Plus he can tell me what he needs, which is a HUGE help in this busy life we lead! Everyday he picks up tons of new words, he completely amazes me! He gets to move up to the next classroom at school this coming week! We have been talking about it and I really think it will be good for him. Although he loves his Ms. Mel!
Layton just got off of a TON of medicine, that was a fun Christmas break! I had to make a spreadsheet to keep up with all of it. Thankfully he is now much better. Just dealing with a diaper rash that happened because of all the medicines. I am keeping him on his breathing treatments once a day, saline for his nose and singular for his allergies just to be safe during the winter months. I am raising a little Zachary during the winter!
All we do in my house is play cars, choo choos and Jake! Thankfully Santa brought Layton a train table for Christmas, so that consumes a lot if his time! I have really started making an effort to turn off the TV. The child is just like his dad and once he starts watching it he can't take his eyes off!
I have said many times over that I have raised a strong willed, independent child. Today he threw his breakfast on the floor, looked at me and said.. "Vacuum Mommy!" I just hope that he has these traits when he is older, if I don't strangle him before then. =)
We just got his 18 month pictures taken I can't wait to get them back! We had such a fun time at Red Rock taking them. I can't wait until summer when we can go run around even more! We also just went to the Shark Reef. This time was much different from the last time. Layton loved the sharks and kept wanting to get in the stingray water! I got a year long pass so that we can go as many times as we want this year! So much fun!
Oh well I'm off to tackle the day. A list of things to do as usual... =)
